I often tell people, both in my business consulting practice and those I consider friends, to imagine something that is so outlandish that you would never put it down as a goal for the year.

For example, you run a million dollar business, and you set a goal at two million - a 100% increase - which is typically quite a stretch, but you should also spend some time thinking about what a 5 or 10 million dollar business would look like.

Who would you hire, what new products or services would need, what type of marketing and PR would be required to get you there?

I find that people make much smarter short term decisions when they have big dreams in the back of their mind.</description>
